What Ylumo does on your phone

On Android

  • The caller's name and company show up while your phone rings.
  • Calls rated as spam can be rejected without ringing, if you turn it on.
  • After the call, report it as spam or not with one tap from the notification.

On iPhone

  • Known spam numbers get a label on the call screen, even without opening the app.
  • You can have numbers rated as spam blocked automatically.
  • Missed a call? Copy the number and paste it into Ylumo to see who it was.

A name on unknown numbers

Ylumo draws on directories, public messaging profiles and what the community knows about a number. A name only shows up when it points to one person.

Telemarketing, spotted

User reports and the number ranges reserved for telemarketing in France let Ylumo recognise unwanted calls before you answer.

Your contacts stay yours

Calls from your contacts are never analysed. Sharing your address book is optional, and you can stop at any time.

The numbers telemarketers call from

Since 1 January 2023, platforms that call in bulk in France must use numbers starting with one of these twelve prefixes. A call from one of them almost always comes from a call centre.

Understand these numbers

Is your number shown in Ylumo?

You can ask for it to no longer be linked to your name. Just prove it's yours with a code sent to it.

Questions

Is Ylumo free?

Yes. Ylumo is free on iPhone and Android, with no subscription.

Why is it different on iPhone and Android?

Android lets an app see the number while the phone rings, so Ylumo shows the name live. On iPhone, Apple doesn't give incoming numbers to apps: Ylumo provides a list of spam numbers in advance, which iOS labels or blocks, and you look up other numbers in the app.

Where do the names come from?

From directories and professional sources, from the public name the owner chose on a messaging service, and from the names Ylumo users give the number. Ylumo only shows a name when these sources point to one person.

Does Ylumo read my calls or texts?

No. Ylumo reads neither your texts nor what is said in your calls. On Android it only receives the calling number, to identify it. Calls from your contacts are ignored.

Why do I need a phone number to sign up?

A number verified with a code stops one person from creating many accounts to skew spam reports, and proves you own your number.

How do I remove my number?

On the "Remove my number" page: enter the number, receive a code on it and confirm. Your name and photo are then no longer shown for that number.
